Up for sale, a Japanese Arisaka Type 38 Leather Sling. This sling has a steel buckle and button. It has 2 buckle slots and one grouping of five and one grouping of three adjustment holes. One leather loop keeper. The kanji is still nicely visible. The character closest to the button has some wear. The full character is visible when the light shines on it (see pic). The leather is still strong and pliable. The surface is worn from use and the surface is flaking on the high wear areas where the buckle and button attaches. Dimensions of the sling are as follows. Give or take a 10th of an inch: Sling overall length: 43 1/2″ Sling width: 1 1/8″ Buckle inside dimensions: 1 1/4″ x 1/2″ Buckle outside dimensions: 1 1/2″ x 3/4″ Leather loop outside dimensions: 1 1/2″ x 3/4″ With the characteristics and the research this sling appears to be genuine. It’s seen a good amount of use, but is more than pliable and shows no signs of cracking or general weakness. Regardless, I’m not a leather expert. Refer to the photos for its appearance and condition. These were made with either blued steel or brass hardware. This is a nice brass example and thus has no rust, which is a definitely benefit. The Finnish [SA] marking is nice and deep and well proportioned. Made in Italy for the M38 and M91/38 series of short rifles. There is some minor wrinkling and cracking on the surface of the leather. The leather has darken with age, but still retains most of that rich dark brown color. The stitching is all tight and intact. A few extra adjustment holes have been punched into the sling. This is an Original Functional WWI era Sling and would look great on a WWI era rifle. No visible markings on the sling. For sale here is a great looking US WW1 or WW2 Era M1907 Leather Rifle Sling for the M1903 Springfield or M1 Garand. I believe the sling is WW2 period due to the russet color that remains in places. The sling is complete with 2 leather keepers, 2 steel adjustment hooks, 2 blued steel slide hooks with blued rifle attachments, and 1 steel connector ring. 1 of the adjustment hooks has lost pretty much all of its finish, and the other appears to be blued, but also shows wear and finish loss. The leather is lightly stiffened, but is still plenty supple enough to move around as it should. The leather is good and strong, but there are a couple of places with surface finish loss and there is some surface cracking at a couple of the hole sets. All of the stitching is strong and the metal fittings, though worn, do not have any major issues. This sling will definitely display well, and should be fine for everyday carry as well. This sling has a great look and will be a good addition to your collection.
