This offering is for an original WWII Leather Sling For a Garand or Springfield Rifle. The sling is maker stamped on one end but the name is hard to make out, the date 1943 is visible but again the 3 is hard to make out. The sling is fully adjustable with all original hardware still in pace. I think the way the makers marking is positioned on the belt it’s probably a Hickok but it’s pretty hard to say for sure. The leather surface does not appear to have ever been oiled or conditioned and is a little dry. There is minor flaking and cracking but no rips tears or repairs. You can see two of these slings in photo’s of a Private and Orderly Sergeant In Captain F. Montgomery’s “Bolivar Troop” Company H in the 1st Mississippi Cavalry. 1st Cavalry Regiment was assembled during the spring of 1862. Its companies were recruited in the counties of Carroll. Tishomingo, Itawamba, Quitman, Noxubee, Bolivar, and Pontotoc. The unit served in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, then was assigned to W. Jackson’s, Ross’, Cosby’s, and F. Armstrong’s Brigade, Department of Alabama. It contained 22 officers and 220 men in July, 1862 and confronted the Federals in various conflicts in. Later the regiment was involved in the operations in. And Middle Tennessee where its casualties were 2 killed and 27 wounded. It went on to fight in North Georgia and.
