I will be at the National Rifle & Pistol Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. Please order before or after these dates. Description: this is a vintage, authentic, USGI. M1907 leather sling for the M1903 Springfield rifle. This sling is approximately 104 years old! I have read that to gauge the authenticity of items like this, the brass keepers(frogs) are the most important. You’ll notice close-up photos, and they look like they are connected with brass rivets. I bought this item from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) who received it from US Army warehouses, probably attached to a rifle. The slings were detached, folded carefully and put in storage. I can show a copy of my receipt upon request. This is the real deal. This was a US government issue leather sling for World War I. Provenance is: US Government, to the CMP, to me. It was in storage, possibly, for 50 years or more! It was pretty dry when I obtained it, so I soaked it in pure neatsfoot oil, the same oil people use for reins, saddles and other leather equipment for horses. There are no tears evident. There are some superficial cracks from military usage, and age. The neatsfoot oil made this leather very soft and supple. That said, this is a for a museum piece rifle, or for a collector to put on their M1903, or M1917 World War I rifle. I would not use this sling to “loop up” on the target range! BONUS : included free with these sights are some National Rifle and Pistol Match memorabilia from Camp Perry, Ohio. This will be in the form of stickers and/or a commemorative hat pin. But don’t worry, you will not be returning this! Just check my Feedback. Feedback : I leave feedback after it is left for me. Thank you for looking! This item is in the category “Collectibles\Militaria\WW I (1914-18)\Original Period Items\United States\Other US WWI Original Items”. The seller is “61daniel” and is located in this country: US. THIS IS A GREAT LOT OF 3 WW2 OR MAYBE WW1 RIFLE SLINGS. ALL THREE WERE WELL STORED FOR THE LAST 45 YEARS IN A CLOSET IN PHILADELPHIA UNTOUCHED. I DID NOT TRY TO CLEAN IN ANY WAY. I USED NO LEATHER CLEANER OR BRASS CORROSION CLEANER. I DO BELIVE ALL THREE ARE STILL FINE TO USE JUST NEED TO BE CLEANED AND POLISHED. THE FRIST ONE LOOKS LIKE B. THIS COULD BE A SPRINGFIELD MASS. THIS ONE IS MID RANGE BROWN. WITH A LITTLE BRASS CORROSION THE LEATHER IS GREAT VERY PLIABLE. I SEE NO ROTT OR WEAR STILL VERY GOOD. NEXT IS THE LIGHTER BROWN ONE THIS ONE IS STILL PLIABLE WITH A LITTLE CORROSION. NOT COMING APART THAT I CAN SEE. I DO NOT SEE ANY MARKING’S. THE LAST ONE ALSO HAS NO MARKING’S THAT I CAN SEE. THIS ONE HAS A LITTLE MORE CORROSION BUT THE LEATHER IS GREAT. I WOULD NOT LIST THEM IF I THOUGHT THEY WERE BAD. THEY ARE OLDER AND NOT REPRODUCTION. IF YOU ARE A COLLECTOR THIS IS A SUPER LOT. GREAT PRICE FOR REAL LEATHER ANTIQUE SLING’S. AGAIN THESE ARE NOT MINT OR PERFECT BUT REAL NICE AND STILL USEABLE. Original WWI Era US Army/USMC M1907 Leather Sling for the M1903 Springfield or M1917 Enfield Rifle – Nice Condition. Up for sale is an Original WWI Era US Army/USMC M1907 Leather Sling. There are some illegible markings on the sling. This sling has the correct WWI Blackened Brass hooks. Still retains some of the original blacking on the metal hooks. The sling is used, see photo’s for condition. The sling has both leather keepers. The leather is soft and pliable. No rips or tears in the leather. There are some minor surface cracks and wrinkling of the leather, please see photos. The leather has darkened due to age. The stitching is all tight and intact. This is an Original Functional WWI era Sling and would look great on a WWI era rifle. NOTE: this is a collectible item, suitable for a correct historic display. It is NOT recommended for actual use. This is the sling that was commonly used on the M1917 Enfield, the M1 Garand, the M1903 Springfield, the M1903A3 Springfield and the M1941 Johnson Rifles. Check out my other items.
