Indian War US Army Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Leather Rifle Sling 4th Pat 3
Indian War Era US Army Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle Sling – 4th Pattern – Original – Nice Condition. This is the Early Longer, 4th Pattern Sling, with the wide prong hook at one end and a brass stud loop at the other end. The sling is approximatley 1 1/4″ wide x 70″ long. The sling has the oval holes. This sling is made from a single length of leather, NOT the salvage civil war musket slings that were sewen together. The leather is soft and supple. Some surface cracks and minor crazing on the surface of the leather. No breaks through the leather. It has the original sling keepers. Still has the original dark brown color. The sling is very faintly marked with the inspector initals at the tip of the sling. No other visible markings. The sling is used, please see photo’s for condition. It has an extra adjustment hole for the brass stud. The age of the leather, will make the sling weaker than when it was new, and may not be able to support the weight of the weapon.
