RARE VINTAGE 33 INCH LEATHER R. 1917 RIFLE SLING / BELT. THIS IS A GREAT OLDER ORIGINAL RIFLE SLING. THIS I BELIEVE WAS MADE FOR A M 1 RIFLE. THE COLOR IS A DARKER BROWN. THE PHOTO WITH THE SLING AT 33 INCHES IS THE REAL COLOR. THE ONES IN THE OTHER PICTURES ARE LIGHTER. THIS IS IN GREAT CONDITION FOR ITS AGE WITH A SUPER PETINA. THE BRASS DOES HAVE SOME OXIDATION BUT NOTHING MAJOR. I DID NOT WANT TO CLEAN UP MUCH TO SHOW THAT THIS IS NOT A REPRODUCTION. THIS ONE IS IN MUCH BETTER SHAPE THAN ANY I HAVE SEEN FROM THAT ERA. Standard issue WW1 1907 pattern sling used on the 1903 Springfield rifle and the M1 Garand Rifle made famous as the standard rifle of the U. Military from WW2 to just before Vietnam. M1907 WWI Leather Sling in good condition. Service rifle Sling at the time of the adoption of the M1917 “Enfield” rifle was the M1907 leather sling used with the M1903 Springfield. The M1907 Sling was adopted for use with the M1 Garand rifle in 1936. The M1907 Sling was used throughout WWII with the “M1″ rifle. The adjustment hooks and hardware on early M1907 Slings were made of brass, while the later WWII examples had steel hardware. The M1907 Sling was also utilized with the Winchester M1897 Trench Gun during WWI and on all WWII Winchester, Stevens, Ithaca, etc trench guns and riot guns equipped with slings. Condition of leather is good and supple, has darkened over time, complete with heavy stitching, both leather keeper loops, proper adjustment holes and both correct pattern brass hooks (fittings). Some cracking is evident but overall it is totally functional and serviceable. An excellent upgrade for any U. Issue WWI or WW2 rifle. It definitely shows age but it has been well stored and cared for. This is a fantastic find for the WWI or Springfield 1903 collector. This is very collectible as it is marked “Colt”. It is 1 1/4 wide and 60 inches long. As you can see in the picture, the “Colt” marking is very good. BRUCE CANFIELD COLLECTION WITH SIGNED LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY! US Army troopers out on the Plains in the Indian Wars faced many dangers during their arduous campaigns. Those intrepid soldiers in “dirty shirt blue” protected settlers, miners, and railroad crews from “hostiles”, forced renegade bands back onto the reservation, and stopped the illicit gun trade funneling weapons into the hands of native warriors. They carried the classic M-1873 “Trapdoor” Springfield rifle on a specially designed “single claw” leather sling. This US Army Indian Wars TRAPDOOR SPRINGFIELD “SINGLE CLAW” LEATHER RIFLE SLING is in good condition, with some overall drying, crazing, stiffening, wrinkling, and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the sling is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough dark brown leather construction, which still remains somewhat pliant. Most interestingly, it boasts the classic darkened brass “single claw” at one end, sports the traditional sizing holes, leather adjustment slide, and sewn loop end, and measures about 70 long. It’s unmarked as to its maker, dates to the 1870s, and is an exclusive item directly from the collection of Bruce Canfield, the noted authority on US military small arms of the post-Civil War era. The sling comes with a signed letter of authenticity guaranteeing its originality, and the fact that it’s resided in Mr. Canfield’s personal collection for the last 30 years. WW1 Rare 14 ptn leather rifle sling in fair used condition. The leather rifle sling does require some restoration on the end that ties together with a leather lace the leather is in place but is weak so would need to be re-enforced with another piece of leather if you wanted to use the sling on a rifle or as a display item it could be left as it is. The leather sling is 1 inch and a quarter wide which is correct and on the length it is 42 and three quarters long which is a little shorter than it should be 43 inches and a half is the correct length, but due to the item being so rare it is better than having no example at all. The leather is supple with it two loops in place it is also stamp 78R on the inside of the sling which has been photographed any other markings would have been on the end that has been shortened there is some evidence of this in the photographs , please see the photographs for further details of this rare to find rifle sling.
